A letter from Switzerland…

Congratulations on the opening of GV Perth Beach!

Boa Lingua has enjoyed a long and successful relationship with Global Village in Canada, Hawaii and on the Australia East Coast.  We are looking forward now to cooperating in your first West Coast school.  I have personally spent very pleasant times in Scarborough Beach, and I am sure that it will be a popular destination for Swiss students.  I hope that I will have a chance to visit the new campus soon, and in the meantime and looking forward to hearing positive reports from our satisfied clients.

Best of luck for  your opening on 2nd of August.

Kind regards

Kurt Krummenacher – Managing Director

GV Brisbane and Noosa drop in to say ‘hi’!

In preparation for the August 2nd opening, we welcomed Sam Mattiuzzo (General Manager) and Becky Cantor (GV Noosa – Director of Studies) to our new GV Perth campus.

Sam and Becky were finalising administrative systems, as well as ensuring that curriculum, academic training and teacher support was up to standard and ready to go for Monday!

Sam:  “What a beautiful campus, and what a stunning area!  I lived in Perth many years ago and like most people spent a lot of weekends at the beach.  I can’t believe how Scarborough has developed in the time since I was last here!   We met a future student of ours working as a waitress at dinner last night, and I am sure with so many jobs in the area that we’ll know someone in every café before long! Neil and his team have done a wonderful job in getting the school ready for our opening next week, and I am sure that students will love their time here.

Becky:  “I’ve had a lovely couple of days working with a great academic team here.  We’ve had a great rivalry between GV Noosa and GV Byron Bay to be the top choice in Australia for Cambridge programs, but I think GV Perth is going to give us both some real competition! Great to see so many enrolments already in for FCE and CAE, too.   A big welcome to the Global Village family to GV Perth! “

Thanks for the visit!

GV PERTH Whale Watching and Photo Competition

With the whale watching season just about to start in WA both locals and students are getting ready to enjoy the spectacular sight of whales swimming along the coastline.  If you listen carefully you can hear them singing as they pass by.

During this exciting season which leads in to a fantastic summer, we are running a competition for students.

Challenge: Submit the best photos you have taken of these friendly giants to Carina in the reception.

All the staff will then try to decide on which one is the best.

Reward: First prize is a trip to the unique Rottnest Island, a paradise for both Aussies and visitors to the area.

Good luck to all of you who try!

Introducing our new Student Support Officer

Hi, my name is Carina Uehr.

Hello everyone~!

Today is my very first day and so far I have had an absolutely wonderful welcome from all the other staff both here in Perth and from the other GV schools over on the east coast. It’s fantastic how friendly and supportive everyone is and I already feel very much at home.

My first day so far has been really active and full of new things – I am really glad that I brought along my notepad so I can keep track of everything… Just to give you an idea, here is a small excerpt of my To Do List so far:

  • Set up email address & skype.
  • Read the student manual and learn about the courses offered at GV Perth.
  • Figure out the telephone hold/forward system.
  • Find the stapler.
  • Don’t get attacked by the coffee machine.
  • Write my blog profile!

As you can see, a pretty busy day already… and it’s only 11.30am!

I hope to get to know you all much better in the course of the next couple of weeks (and also learn your names!). Thank you everyone so much for the warm welcome, and I’m looking forward to a fun, exciting and of course productive time at GV Perth!

Whale season approaching!

Did you know that you can see humpback whales from the sands of Scarborough Beach?

This photo was taken from Scarborough Beach last October.  The main whale migration season starts from around September, and keen whale watchers will be waiting on the beaches each morning for a sight of these spectacular mammals.

For those who just can’t get enough of whale watching, GV Perth Beach can arrange whale watching tours leaving from Hillary’s Boat Harbour, just north of the school.  Speak to Neil to arrange a student discount!

Scarborough Beach is one of the best vantage points in Australia to spot whales as they migrate up and down the West Coast.  If you get a good photo, make sure you bring it in for the blog!!
